README for SEYCHELLES version 1 January 2004

FOR MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2004

Introduction

This is my first scenery project for Microsoft flight simulator and I wanted to do this as freeware as thanks to all the freeware authors out there that have produced such great material that I have used over the past few years.

I felt that the default scenery just did not do justice to this fantastic area so I have done something about that and hope I have done it justice.

If you like island hopping or GA flights this scenery should appeal to you and it even has an international airport.

I have tried to be as accurate as I can but bearing in mind this is my first attempt at scenery design there are bound to be some flaws which will be remedied as and when I can.

Version 1

This version will include new airports or airstrips, new ground mesh, coasts, roads, and rivers together with new landclasses and various scenery objects for the following islands;
Mahe, Silhouette, North Island, Praslin (and surrounding smaller islands), Fregate, Denis Island and Bird Island.

I have also included AFCAD files which will make the AI aircraft follow my new aprons correctly. Future updates will include AI aircraft flying between islands.

Also, other islands will follow in due course together with updated versions of the above when I get sufficient new information and a bit more time.

Requirements

In order for my scenery to work correctly, it will be necessary for you to have the following textures in the main texture folder of Flight Simulator;

NOVA
NOVAGOLD
VOD
Gerrish Greys trees Version 3
AIRPORT

All of these are easily obtained from the Avsim library or other flight simulation sites.

Scenery Installation

Installing my scenery should be very easy and will work if the following is carried out;

Step 1 – Unzip the files into a temporary directory.

Step 2 – Copy and paste each of the 3 folders, Seychelles Landclass, Seychelles Mesh and Seychelles Objects into your addon scenery folder (you can always create another folder anywhere on your computer if you so wish).

Step 3 – Copy the bgl file called “tree.0-bgl” into the following;
In FS2004; copy into scenery/world/scenery folder.

Step 4 – Start up FS2004 and using the scenery library add the three new folders to your library. You will have to restart in order that the scenery will work.

AFCAD files

I have found that the AFCAd files (4nr) work perfectly well if you simply place them into your scenery folder within the Addon Scenery directory ( the same place as your 3 new Seychelles folders will go).

General notes and issues

This scenery has been tested on a Pentium P4 1.8G with 512ram, ATI Radeon 128mb video card and windows XP Home. With sliders at maximum, autogen at max and scenery at very dense, the sim runs fairly smooth. Obviously systems will vary so an amount of experimenting may be necessary.

There may be a lowering of frame rates around the main airport of the Seychelles (this should not be an issue with faster computers) but this can be improved by removing the following bgl’s from the Seychelles Objects/scenery folder;
All the Victoria bgl’s (this has the biggest effect on frame rates)
Seychelles cars
Seychelles lights

I have “made” three new NDB’s for Islands that have no communication equipment in the simulation and these are shown on the attached BMP along with route information.

When in spot mode, or slewing in this scenery, I have found that the scenery takes a little while to redraw. Whilst redrawing there are small gaps between scenery “tiles” but these do disappear quite quickly. When in normal flight, this problem is not evident. This problem may be due to the version of Ground2K I used and hopefully will be fixed when I next update the scenery.

Thanks and acknowledgements

Many thanks go to the following;

Christian Fumey for the excellent Ground2K
Derek Leung for the also excellent FSSC
Matthias Bruckner for Easy Object Designer
Russell Dirks for EZLandclass
Gerrish Grey for his beautiful trees
The many contributors to the scenery development forum who have given an immense amount of advice, together with those who have uploaded various api or macros files, some of which I have may have used.

Daniel Lailam, resident of the Seychelles for the many photos, general information and for testing out my scenery for me.

Michael for the information, testing out my scenery for me and the comments received over the past few months.

Thank you all.
